Spains Reign As European Champions Comes To An End

Spain's reign as European champions comes to an end

Prandelli out to leave Spain feeling blue

Italy coach Cesare Prandelli is determined to end Spain's reign as European champions when the two sides meet in the final of Euro 2012 on Sunday.

Spain have been in dominant form throughout the tournament, winning all six of their matches and scoring 12 goals in the process. However, Prandelli believes that his Italy side can cause an upset and claim their first European Championship title since 1968.

"We know that Spain are a great team, but we are not afraid of them," said Prandelli. "We have our own strengths and we believe that we can win this game.

"We have a lot of respect for Spain, but we are not going to just sit back and defend. We are going to go out there and attack them from the first whistle."

Italy will be without the suspended Giorgio Chiellini for the final, but Prandelli has a number of other options at his disposal, including Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli.

Spain coach Vicente del Bosque is also confident of his team's chances of victory.

"We are very excited to be in the final," said del Bosque. "We have worked hard to get to this point and we are now one game away from winning the European Championship.

"Italy are a very good team, but we believe that we can beat them. We have a lot of experience in this competition and we are confident that we can win our third European Championship title in a row."

The final of Euro 2012 will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Kiev on Sunday, July 1.
