Former UFC and Bellator Champion Steps Away

MacDonald's Wife Confirms Decision

Rory MacDonald, a former UFC welterweight title challenger and Bellator MMA welterweight champion, has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA). MacDonald's wife, Olivia, broke the news on Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of the fighter with the caption, "Rory Mac is officially retired." She added, "So proud of all you have accomplished in your career. It's time to hang up the gloves and enjoy the next chapter."

MacDonald's retirement comes as a surprise to many, as he is still considered one of the top welterweights in the sport. He has not competed since June 2021, when he lost his Bellator welterweight title to Yaroslav Amosov via knockout. However, MacDonald has been plagued by injuries throughout his career, and it is likely that these played a role in his decision to retire.

MacDonald made his MMA debut in 2005 and quickly became one of the most promising prospects in the sport. He signed with the UFC in 2010 and quickly rose through the ranks, challenging for the welterweight title in 2015. MacDonald lost to Robbie Lawler, but he remained a top contender for several years. In 2016, he left the UFC and signed with Bellator, where he won the welterweight title in 2018. MacDonald defended the title once, before losing to Amosov in 2021.

Throughout his career, MacDonald compiled a record of 23-8-1. He is known for his powerful striking and grappling skills. MacDonald is also known for his toughness and determination, never backing down from a challenge. He has faced some of the best fighters in the world, including Robbie Lawler, Tyron Woodley, and Carlos Condit. MacDonald has left a lasting legacy in MMA, and he will be remembered as one of the most talented and respected fighters of his generation.
